There is a children’s book called, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” by Laura Numeroff which describes that if you give a mouse a cookie, he’ll ask for a glass of milk, and this pattern continues with more things being given to and asked for by the mouse. I recently realized, this is somewhat similar of what with me. I had an idea, which led to another, and so forth until I ended up on this 50-state journey.
I knew I wanted to start a business and also create something. I decided to create the bottle opener that you see as the profile pictures of the Lift N Brews accounts on social media (Follow= @liftnbrews). I decided I would quit my job and start my own ventures. Prior to doing so, I thought it would be fun to take a trip first, a road trip to see friends and places in the United States. Well, if I was going to go on a road trip, why not make it big, hit every state, to simply be able to say I’ve been in every state and can have a greater appreciation for all that makes up the United States.
I told my friends who thought it was mainly cool with only a small amount of crazy. They then said I should make it more meaningful. It isn’t common for someone to go to all the states in one trip if I was going to do so, I needed to get something good out of it. Well, I do love working out, beer, and talking with people to hear their stories of how they achieved success. I decided I’d talk to 2 gym owners and 2 brewery owners in every state.
Sure, I could be more deliberate in my choices of location, but I’m working off connections, trying to meet friends of friends. Regardless of the monetary success of a place, there will be lessons learned and I’ll make sure to do so.
So, for those of you wondering why I’m doing the trip or what started it, I just had an idea that led to more!
